Navman is a New Zealand-based GPS systems company in Auckland as Talon Technology established in 1988. They provide stand-alone GPS units, GPS software for Palm handhelds and Pocket PCs, automotive navigation systems and navigation systems for use at sea. Navman Marine Division also design and manufacture Fish Finders, Sonar, VHF radios, Autopilots and sailing instruments. Particularly the fish finder is an important device to its existing range of marine instruments such as wind and depth gauges.

The company came to be known as Navman in the nineties and this name is derived from the world's first chart plotters. In 1997, this company was decided to focus on GPS and expanded its portfolio to launch the first portable in-car navigation device. However the company expanded further in 2001 by acquiring the Rockwell/Conexant GPS module business. From this stage it became as Navman’s commercial GPS solutions arm which focused particularly to off-the-shelf GPS solutions.

However the company established itself in the GPS field and came up with several innovative products. In 1997, the PDA-based in-car navigation device was launched as the company’s first product. In fact after that the company did not stop producing; rather it produced the first mass marketed portable in-car navigation devices like the iCN 630, in 2003. The company also developed the world's first integrated GPRS and GPS receivers that enabled businesses to manage their fleet more efficiently than before.
